Burglary Advice

With the summer holidays in full swing, despite the classic English weather, many people will be getting ready to jet off on a well deserved break. Whether you are travelling abroad, taking a trip away from London or just staying at home, this time of the year is a perfect time for criminals to try their luck.

STEPS TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY

  • Don't advertise your goods. Always keep valuables out of sight from windows and store keys securely.
  • You could consider using a property marking kit to help Police identify your property in the event it is stolen.
  • Lock your windows and double lock doors when you go out, even for a short period.
  • Make your home look occupied
  • Install security alarms for the property, these have been proven to deter thieves.
  • Keep gates, sheds and garages locked and don't leave any tools lying around that could be used to break in.
  • Keep hedges at the front low and install outdoor lighting, so burglars have nowhere to hide.
  • Install trellises and spikey plants to stop burglars from climbing over any fences you may have.
  •

If you see anything suspicious, feel free to call 101 or let us know on Met Engage. If you are witnessing a crime being committed make sure you call 999 and do not approach the thieves or make them aware you can see them.
